"I" Message Review.
This assignment is based off some of your conversations in this class. Some of you need to utilize the "I" message technique for conflict resolution instead of verbal assault. I have listed a review of the "I" message format below:
There are 4 parts to an "I" message.
1. "I feel" (state your feeling) - I feel upset
2. "When you" (state the other person's behavior) - when you tell other people my secrets
3. "because" (state the effect on you) - because it embarrasses me.
4. "I need" (state what you want to happen). I need to know that I can trust you in order to be my friend.
Complete "I" Message: I feel upset when you tell other people my secrets because it embarrasses me. I need to know that I can trust you in order to be my friend.
--ASSIGNMENT--
Using the "I" message model, create a statement in response to the following situation:
Throughout the day, friends tell you that another student is saying bad things about what you did this weekend. Over lunch you notice that the other student is staring at you from another table. When you notice the other student, they turn their head, say something, and others at their table start to laugh. You don't know what was said, but you assume it was about you. After lunch, you see the student in the hallway, and you decide to speak to them.
In the submission form, write down what you would say to them using the "I" statement model.
